Waite Rawls talked about what the first seven states to secede from the Union did to assert their sovereignty, establish their governments, and prepare their military defenses. South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas had seceded by February 1, 1861, before the inauguration of President Lincoln. This talk was part of the Sesquicentennial Brown Bag Lunch Series at the Museum of the Confederacy.
