President Obama announced his choice of William Daley to replace Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff.
Calling upon his "experienced public service," Pres. Obama noted highlights of Daley's career, which include serving as commerce secretary under former Pres. Clinton.
During his tenure, he played a significant role in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). That previous experience may aid Daley in his new role as the Obama administration strives to stimulate the economy and lower unemployment.
Daley will replace interim chief of staff Pete Rouse, who will take on another role on Pres. Obama's staff. Rahm Emmanuel stepped down from the position last year to run for mayor of Chicago after Mayor Richard Daley, William’s older brother, announced his retirement.
