The Senate Armed Services Committee hear personal views from the chiefs of staff of the Army, Air Force and the Navy, as well as the commandants of the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard, as they consider overturning the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military policy. The 10-month review conducted by Pentagon officials was released on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Defense Secretary Gates has said that its findings supports efforts to overturn the 17-year-old law, which bans gay, lesbian and bisexual service members from serving openly in the military. It included a survey of service members on the perceived impact of lifting the ban and concluded that lifting the policy will not negatively affect military operations.
