Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) died at approximately 3am (ET) on June 28th at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va. First elected in 1958, Sen. Byrd was the longest serving U.S. Senator and Member of Congress in history. He is also the author of five books, including a series on the history of the Senate. The Senate has approved Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI) as the new President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
