Madeleine Sackler talked about the documentary The Lottery which she directed and produced. The documentary tells the story of how children are chosen to participate in charter schools in New York City. It follows the paths of four families from Harlem and the Bronx who hope to get their children into the Harlem Success Academy and out of the New York public school system. It also covers community and school board meetings where the charter school system is debated. Video clips of the documentary were shown. Madeleine Sackler is a 27 year old filmmaker based in New York City. She previously co-directed Mechina: A Preparation. She was part of the research team for the Martin Scorsese film Shine a Light. Ms. Sackler is a graduate of Duke University.
