In an annual ceremony at Westminster, Queen Elizabeth II convened the British Parliament. She delivered a speech drawn up by the government, which outlines its priorities for the coming year. The State Opening follows the May 6th, 2010, general election, which produced a new Prime Minister, Conservative David Cameron. He is the leader of a coalition government between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. The Queen delivered the speech from the throne in the House of Lords.
