Ted Morgan talked about his book Valley of Death: The Tragedy at Dien Bien Phu that Led America into the Vietnam War. The book is the story of a 1954 battle where the French were defeated by the Vietnamese resistance forces, ending French rule in Indochina. That battle ultimately led to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. In 1961, while working for the New York Herald Tribune, Ted Morgan won a Pulitzer prize for local reporting. Born in France, he became an American citizen in 1977. Ted Morgan's previous books include biographies of Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and writer Somerset Maugham. He also wrote Reds: McCarthyism in Twentieth-Century America.
